Why Attend?

This inaugural event will provide attendees a forum to:

  • EXPLORE ECONOMIC STIMULUS AND OTHER FEDERAL RESOUCE OPPORTUNITIES: New legislation provides significant funding for local clean energy and climate actions. Participants will meet senior federal program directors; hear details about program eligibility, requirements and deadlines; and learn how to compete successfully for stimulus funding and other federal resources.
  • SHOWCASE LOCAL GOVERNMENT LEADERSHIP AND SHARE LESSONS LEARNED: Participants will learn about innovative local government efforts in the areas of green buildings, alternative fuel vehicles, land use and smart growth, renewable energy, green infrastructure, and adaptation.
  • INFLUENCE FEDERAL CLIMATE AND ENERGY POLICY: Congress and the Obama Administration plan to consider energy policy, a cap-and-trade climate change bill, transportation reauthorization legislation, and spending decisions for FY 2010. The Summit will provide an opportunity to demonstrate the important and unique climate change role of cities and counties and urge federal policymakers to empower local government climate action.
